SWIFT would like to invite you to sign up for our last event of the quarter: The Advanced Linux System Administration Seminar (ALSAS). ALSAS is an event for individuals interested in advanced topics involving Linux, including system administration and service configuration. It will be held this Friday, November 20th from 3pm to 7pm in Building 98P, Room 2-007.During this 4 hour workshop, the SWIFT President and Vice President will be showing you how to install, configure, secure and maintain services on a Linux system, including SSH, Apache, MySQL, PHP, and a firewall. This live demonstration will be taught via lecture while you, the students, follow along with your own Linux server on your laptop. By the time you leave, you will have not only a working Linux server, but the knowledge on how to duplicate your efforts outside of the workshop.
ALSAS is an advanced workshop for individuals with some experience with Linux, and is not intended for everyone. An advanced understanding is not required, but you should have at least installed Linux at some point in the past.
This event is limited to 20 students, and it will be on a first come, first serve basis. You must reply to this email AFTER Wednesday at 8:00am, but before Thursday at 11:59pm in order to have a spot reserved for you.
Requirements:
A laptop with:
- 10G of free space
- 1G of RAM
- Vmware Server Installed (register for free) Download VMware here.
